Scam alert
We’re aware of a refund/recovery scam circulating via gmail using the Heartland Bank name. Scammers are notifying gmail users that there is a payment waiting to be processed and ask the user to deposit a sum of money to release the payment. This is a scam and is not related to Heartland Bank. If you have a gmail account and receive this message, we recommend reporting this to gmail as malicious content.
How to spot a scam and what you need to do if you suspect one?
If we do contact you via email, it will only ever be sent from an email address ending in @heartland.co.nz.
We will never ask you to disclose your user ID or password over the phone, by email or in person. We also won’t send you email messages with a link to online banking, or ask you to transfer funds. If you’re asked for this information, this is likely a scam – please act with caution and do not provide any details.
If you suspect you’ve been targeted by a scam or detect any suspicious online behaviour regarding any Heartland Bank products, please email the Heartland security team immediately at [email protected]. We’ll investigate the issue and advise you of the appropriate action.

- Sensitive data travelling between your device and our systems is securely encrypted.
- If the app is left running without any activity it will automatically require you to log in again.
- We conduct ongoing security reviews of our app and supporting infrastructure to ensure that potential vulnerabilities are identified and addressed.
- Additional security assessments are carried out by third party security specialists.
